It may not be right around the corner from our stomping grounds here in southern Illinois, but Louisville is only about 3 1/2 hours away and that’s not too far to drive for an impressive selection of craft beers on cask! That’s what I told myself, anyway, when I read the press release that came across my inbox earlier today.
On Friday, September 24th from 4pm – Midnight, the Bluegrass Brewing Company is hosting a cask ale festival in conjunction with Louisville’s Craft Beer Week. This inaugural event will give craft beer-lovers the opportunity to sample from the casks of over ten craft breweries, including Bell’s, Flying Dog, Great Lakes, Left Hand, Rogue and Stone in addition to a handful of local craft favorites. There will be over 30+ cask beers on hand.
Yes, Stone. I said Stone. Kind of exciting for those of us in the southern part of Illinois who are not Chicago … and who are not enjoying Stone beers. At least those purchased locally. But that’s another story.
This is mild consolation for the fact that I will – once again – miss the Great American Beer Festival in Denver this year, despite my best efforts … and the fact that our flight and lodging was already booked! But that’s yet another story. If you can’t make it to Denver this year either, perhaps Louisville is more realistic?
If you’re interested in attending this event, tickets will go on sale Friday, September 3rd at 10am. You can purchase them online here. Food, music and a souvenir tasting glass will be provided.
The event will be held at Bluegrass Brewing Company which is located at 3929 Shelbyville Rd. in Louisville, Kentucky.
You can find out more about Louisville Craft Beer Week on their Facebook page.
